POST TITLE:   Program Associate, Malaria



OVERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Program Associate will provide technical assistance to improve pharmaceutical management systems in Kenya as a malaria team member working under the supervision of the Supply Chain Specialist based in Kenya,
• The Program Associate will support the provision of HCSM technical assistance to the Division of Malaria Control (DOMC) and other Roll Back Malaria stakeholders in planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities, with special attention to pharmaceutical management, malaria diagnosis and case management,
• The Program Associate will link with regional level HCSM staff, to advocate for pharmaceutical and commodity security strategies that capacitate regional health facilities and their management in the planning and monitoring activities,
• He/she will particular provide technical assistance to improve commodity management data management and usage in support of supply chain management and performance improvement.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with the Division of Malaria Control (DOMC), Kenya to identify priorities and develop strategies to support the overall strengthening of pharmaceutical systems for the appropriate management of malaria,
• In coordination with the Supply Chain Specialist and the HCSM Malaria team in Kenya, work with the DOMC to achieve the development of appropriate policies for the treatment of malaria,
• Work within HCSM Malaria team to provide the DOMC with tools and technical assistance to improve access to and promote the rational use of ant malarial commodities and services,
• Support the HCSM Malaria team to assist the DOMC to improve quantification, procurement, distribution and use of antimalarials and other related health commodities in the public and private health sectors,
• Provide the DOMC with tools and technical assistance to assess and improve pharmaceutical use practices in the community and health facilities,
• In collaboration with the HCSM Malaria team, provide timely information to the USAID/ Kenya, and MSH/Center for Pharmaceutical Management Arlington on the status of existing and planned activities as requested,
• Support the deployment of appropriate tools to collect, collate, analyze and disseminate data and information on pharmaceutical management in Kenya,
• Coordinate with the HCSM technical team to write technical reports and assist with the documentation of lessons learned and good practices in Kenya for dissemination,
• Liaise with the national level HCSM teams to identify and implement relevant interventions for strengthening pharmaceutical and laboratory systems within the region to achieve Program goals,
• Keep a written record of all meetings attended by HCSM in the provision of technical assistance to the DOMC and its partners,
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Professional degree or other equivalent relevant training with significant experience in public health and health commodities logistics. Qualification in health sciences, public health, epidemiology or pharmacy preferred,
• Strong familiarity and experience with pharmacy and/or pharmaceutical management systems,
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others in developing creative and strategic solutions to achieve common goals,
• Strong organizational and communication skills,
• Knowledge of and/or experience in Malaria interventions and public health management issues in developing country context preferred,
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications such as MSWord, Excel, Access, Power point and Outlook,
• Database experience required,
• Willingness and ability to be flexible depending on changing priorities and deadlines,
• Competency in English language,
• Ability and willingness to travel periodically within Kenya.
